Broken, chipped or loose veneer repair in Mooca – Dr. Cléo Salustiano
A veneer that breaks, chips or comes loose does not pick a convenient day. At the office of Dr. Cléo Salustiano (CRO-SP 170844) in Mooca, São Paulo, appointments run every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays and holidays included, always by appointment. Send a message on WhatsApp saying what happened, preferably with a photo, and the team will confirm the time available. Care is in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
This page covers what to do in the first hours, what is usually assessed and how a repair works. Repairs are closely tied to the office's work with composite (resin) veneers, but the assessment can also be done on veneers made of other materials or placed at another office: whether a repair is possible depends on the material and on the condition of the tooth.
What to do in the first hours
A few simple steps protect the tooth and make the repair easier:
- Keep the piece
- If the veneer or a fragment came off whole, keep it in a clean container and bring it to the appointment. It cannot always be reused, but it helps the assessment.
- Do not glue it at home
- Avoid household glues or adhesives on the tooth. They can harm the tooth and gum and make the repair harder.
- Go easy on your front teeth
- Until the appointment, avoid biting hard or firm foods with your front teeth, such as crusty bread, whole apples, ice and fingernails.
- Protect the edge
- If a sharp edge is hurting your tongue or lip, orthodontic wax (sold at pharmacies) can protect it for a short time until you are seen.
- Keep up oral hygiene
- Keep brushing with a soft brush and flossing gently, without forcing the area.
- Pain, swelling or bleeding
- If there is severe pain, swelling or bleeding that does not stop, say so in your message: the case may need priority. See also our emergency dentist in Mooca page.
What happens at the assessment
At the appointment, Dr. Cléo examines the veneer, the tooth underneath, the gums and your bite. The aim is to understand why the piece broke or came loose, so the repair lasts and the problem does not return. Common causes include biting something hard, grinding the teeth, an injury to the mouth and natural wear of the material over the years.
Depending on the case, the repair may be polishing, adding composite resin to the chipped area, or redoing the veneer. Which one is appropriate is only decided after the exam, and the plan is explained before any decision. Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth, so a repair can sometimes be done during the same appointment; that depends on how extensive the damage is and on the day’s schedule.
Situations the assessment can help with
- Chipped veneer
- A small piece of the edge has come off. It can leave a sharp edge and make staining and further fractures more likely.
- Broken veneer
- The piece has broken over a larger area. The tooth underneath may be exposed and sensitive to cold and heat.
- Loose veneer
- The piece has come off the tooth completely or partly, or is lifting at the edges. Keep it and do not try to re-glue it.
- Rough or worn edge
- Not always urgent, but polishing and adjustment help stop the wear from progressing.
How to keep it from happening again
For composite veneers, regular maintenance, about every four months, lets the edges be polished and checked before a small area of wear becomes a fracture. If you grind your teeth, a protective night guard may be recommended at the assessment. More guidance in the articles on caring for composite veneers.

Frequently asked questions
Is a broken veneer an emergency?
+
It does not always involve pain, but it is worth being seen soon: the edge can hurt your mouth, the tooth underneath can become exposed and sensitive, and the damage can grow. Appointments run every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Send a message on WhatsApp, preferably with a photo.
Do you see broken veneers on Sundays and holidays?
+
Yes. The office is open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays and holidays included, by appointment. Availability for the day is confirmed on WhatsApp at +55 (11) 97409-7834.
Can I glue the veneer back myself?
+
This is not recommended. Household glues can harm the tooth and gum and make the repair harder. Keep the piece in a clean container and bring it to your appointment.
Can a veneer be repaired, or does it have to be redone?
+
It depends on how extensive the damage is. For small damage, polishing or adding resin may be enough; for larger damage, the veneer may need to be redone. This is decided at the exam, and the plan is explained before any decision.
Can the repair be done the same day?
+
In some cases of composite veneers, yes, because the material is shaped directly on the tooth. It is not a rule: it depends on the damage, the condition of the tooth and the schedule that day, and this is assessed at the appointment.
Do you assess veneers placed at another office?
+
The assessment is possible. Whether a repair is feasible depends on the material, the condition of the tooth and what was done before, and this is explained after the exam.
Why do veneers break or come loose?
+
The most common causes are biting something hard, grinding the teeth, an injury to the mouth and wear of the material over time. A problem with the gums or the tooth underneath can also contribute. The assessment looks for the cause so the repair lasts.
How much does a repair cost?
+
The cost depends on how extensive the damage is and on the type of repair, and it is given at the assessment, before any decision.
How do I book a veneer repair?
+
On WhatsApp at +55 (11) 97409-7834, telling us what happened and sending a photo, or with the "Book" button on this site, which shows open times (booking page in Portuguese).
